A Russian artist and a Ukrainian owner of a holiday home on the Indonesian island of Bali have come together in a special way to promote peace and unity(團結(jié)) through a large work of art. The work, a piece of calligraphy—spanning(橫跨) 960 square meters across the rooftops of nine buildings—spells out “United World”in six languages: Russian, Ukrainian, English,Chinese.French and Indonesian.

　　“This work is not a political statement(聲明）.but a cultural statement and a social statement,about people and the way...We can work together to create a future in peace." Russian calligraphy artist Pokras Lampas told Reuters.

　　The 30-year-oldLampas,who has been Bali since December, said the idea had been developed with a group of Ukrainian friends before the war between Russia and Ukraine started.The tension(緊張局勢)between the two countries is building up. The work has taken on even more meaning.

　　Alex Shtefan is the Ukrainian running the holiday home. He said the artwork follows his values and sends an important message. "We can show in our way the world our idea that the world needs to be united,”said Shtefan, who has been living in Indonesia for six years.

　　Both men said they hoped the war would stop as soon as possible. “If we can find a way to stop it and find a peaceful way to negotiate(談判），we need to make it now.”Lampas said.“Even though the two countries have their own cultures,Russia and Ukraine always were like brothers. We were always...close,we always helped each other and even we looked similar. We cannot believe what has happened,”Shtefans aid, adding that he was worried about the safety of loved ones back home.
